Mirissa is one of Sri Lanka’s prime beachside destinations with the long stretch
of the beautiful sandy Main Beach shaded with towering palm trees and dotted
with beachside bars, restaurants and cafés. It’s a destination suited to anyone’s
holiday needs with top surf sports, whale watching, beach lounging, top seafood
restaurants and many more attractions all in the vicinity.
Hostel First Mirissa is
situated in the heart of it all, located less than 100 meters from the famous beach
and one of many nearby surf points. Our comfy hostel common area beanbags
are ideal for chilling out, relaxing and socializing on the after those long sunny
beach days. We offer spacious and airy dorm rooms and private villa-style rooms
with en-suite bathroom, a large well equipped kitchen and free high-speed Wi-Fi.
All of the amenities Mirissa has to offer are within walking distance with ATMs, shops, beach bars, restaurants, cafés and bus stops (for when you eventually decide to leave us), less than 5 minutes away. We can organise many tours to explore the vibrant wildlife nearby where sightings of turtles, dolphins and whales are as common as coconuts (which are available for instant refreshment on every corner). We organize daily whale watching tours leaving early in the morning.

If you’re coming from Hostel First at the airport in Negombo or Yala National
Park , we can easily arrange a hassle-free journey by taxi for surcharge. Getting
here by public transport is also easy. Matara is the nearest transport hub to
which there is frequent access from all over the country. Hostel First Mirissa is
located 8 km from Matara. Colombo to Matara takes between 2 to 3.5 hours by
bus, or 3.5 hours by train.
If you come by train, you can hop off at Mirissa railway station, which is 3 km
from our hostel. From the station, you can take a tuk-tuk or walk.
If you come by bus from Colombo to Matara, ask the driver to let you off near
Beachside Road in Mirissa. From Matara bus station, the Matara-Galle or Matara-
Weligama bus can drop you in Mirissa. Once in Mirissa, follow the main road
until you see Beachside Road and an ATM (there's only 2 in Mirissa) on the left
(towards the beach) and before Barisata (Lavazza coffee) on the right when
coming from Matara. Turn left onto Beachside Road and our hostel is 200m
down the road on your left hand side.
